Colin Brien is an attorney with an LL.M. in Taxation. While in law school, he was drawn to tax law for its complexity, evolving case law, and the practical impact it has on businesses.

He brings over 20 years of experience in information reporting and withholding, gained during his career in Big Four public accounting. Early in his career, Colin focused on advising large banks and financial institutions, including private equity and asset management firms.

With the introduction of the Foreign Account Tax Compliance Act (FATCA) in 2010, Colin increasingly advised nonfinancial businesses seeking clarity on the rules and their applicability. While many were not directly impacted by FATCA, it became clear that these organizations needed guidance on the core requirements of withholding and reporting—an area that had often been overlooked.

Colin found this work especially rewarding. He values the opportunity to partner with nonfinancial businesses, where teams are highly engaged and collaborative in addressing compliance challenges.
